Top 10 New Year's Resolution for 2012

Top 10 New Year's Resolution For 2012

Posted By MydeaMedia

New Year's Eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year. It's a time to reflect on the changes we want (or need) to make and resolve to follow through on those changes. Did your New Year resolutions make our top ten list?

1. Spend More Time with Family & Friends

Recent polls conducted by General Nutrition Centers, Quicken, and others shows that more than 50% of Americans vow to appreciate loved ones and spend more time with family and friends this year. Make plans to meet up with friends for an evening of comaraderie at a favorite Pittsburgh restaurant or take the family to one of these popular Pittsburgh places for family fun. Work shouldn't always come first!

2. Fit in Fitness

The evidence is in for fitness. Regular exercise has been associated with more health benefits than anything else known to man. Studies show that it reduces the risk of some cancers, increases longevity, helps achieve and maintain weight loss, enhances mood, lowers blood pressure, and even improves arthritis. In short, exercise keeps you healthy and makes you look and feel better. Why not make this the time to start getting in shape for one of these popular Pittsburgh Area Charity Walks, Runs or Rides?

3. Tame the Bulge

Over 66 percent of adult Americans are considered overweight or obese by recent studies, so it is not surprising to find that weight loss is one of the most popular New Year's resolutions. Setting reasonable goals and staying focused are the two most important factors in sticking with a weight loss program, and the key to success for those millions of Americans who made a New Year's commitment to shed extra pounds.

4. Quit Smoking

If you have resolved to make this the year that you stamp out your smoking habit, over-the-counter availability of nicotine replacement therapy now provides easier access to proven quit-smoking aids. Even if you've tried to quit before and failed, don't let it get you down. On average, smokers try about four times before they quit for good. Start enjoying the rest of your smoke-free life! Even Allegheny County is trying to go smoke-free, and it's taken them a few tries as well. Locally, there are a variety of free support services, hotlines and smoking cessation classes to help you kick the smoking habit.

5. Enjoy Life More

Given the hectic, stressful lifestyles of millions of Americans, it is no wonder that "enjoying life more" has become a popular resolution in recent years. It's an important step to a happier and healthier you! Consider one of Pittsburgh's holistic healing centers for products designed to bring balance to your body, mind and soul. Or just get out and try something new! Take up a new hobby or try your hand at skiing. Go to a theater performance, or head to the local spa. Pittsburgh offers a wealth of artistic and recreational activities to meet just about anyone's wishes.

6. Quit Drinking

While many people use the New Year as an incentive to finally stop drinking, most are not equipped to make such a drastic lifestyle change all at once. Many heavy drinkers fail to quit cold turkey but do much better when they taper gradually, or even learn to moderate their drinking. If you have decided that you want to stop drinking, there is a world of help and support available. Pittsburgh Alcoholics Anonymous offers meetings throughout the greater Pittsburgh area. There is also a Pittsburgh group for Parents of Teenage Alcohol and Drug Abusers. There are also a number of treatment-based programs, as well as support groups for families of alcoholics.

7. Get Out of Debt

Was money a big source of stress in your life last year? Join the millions of Americans who have resolved to spend this year getting a handle on their finances. It's a promise that will repay itself many times over in the year ahead.

8. Learn Something New

Have you vowed to make this year the year to learn something new? Perhaps you are considering a career change, want to learn a new language, or just how to fix your computer? Whether you take a course or read a book, you'll find education to be one of the easiest, most motivating New Year's resolutions to keep. The Community College of Allegheny County offers a wide variety of "lifelong learning" courses, and local YMCA's offer great recreational training for beginners of all ages. Most local colleges and universities offer distance and adult education programs. Or if the arts are more your thing, places such as the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts offer adult studio classes.

9. Help Others

A popular, non-selfish New Year's resolution, volunteerism can take many forms. Whether you choose to spend time helping out at your local library, mentoring a child, or building a house, there are many nonprofit volunteer organizations that could really use your help. The Pittsburgh Cares organization makes it easy by connecting volunteers with projects to fit practically any schedule. Or if your time is really in short supply, maybe you can at least find it in you to donate the furniture, clothing and other household items that you no longer need, rather than leaving them out by the curb to fill up our landfills.

10. Get Organized

On just about every New Year resolution top ten list, organization can be a very reasonable goal. Whether you want your home organized enough that you can invite someone over on a whim, or your office organized enough that you can find the stapler when you need it, these tips and resources should get you started on the way to a more organized life. Pittsburgh has quite a few professional organizers who can help you reduce the clutter in your life and find peace in your home. Professional Pittsburgh organizer Patty Kreamer even offers a a six-month But I Might Need it Somday! ecourse.

The first luxury hotel ‘Acutel Dogs’ for dogs opened in Paris offers massage salons, heated pools, gyms and training programs for their canine clients.

Devi and Stan Burun, the hotel’s owners, are both lifelong dog-lovers and they treat their clients are humans.
Pet owners pay between $36 and $48 to leave their dogs for the day.
“People think we serve the dogs’ food from silver platters but this is not pointless, extravagant luxury,” Devi told Reuters. “It’s not like in the United States or Japan… giving the dogs manicures, dying their fur pink… that’s human madness.
“Our priority is to meet the dogs’ needs. People live in small apartments in Paris, they work, they don’t have time to walk their dogs. We respond to those needs,” Devi added.
According to the blog France Today, the hotel sits close to one of Paris’ major parks, the Bois de Vincennes; as such the property offers “doggy joggs,” “doggy walks,” “dogy rando” (hiking) and “doggy vĂ©lo (running next to a bike).
The rooms are lined with TVs so beloved pets can watch DVDs as well as framed prints of their fellow furry friends. Also, each room has tiled floors and doggy pictures on the walls.

Five favourite foods with poisonous hidden bite

Tomatoes
Known around the world by various names suchas Wolf Peach or Love Apple, the delicious Tomato grows on a poisonous plant. The fruit itself is not affected by this substance, which is found in abundance in the stem and leaves, a chemical known as glycoalkaloid. Higher levels are found in wild tomatoes, but those grown domestically still contain it. This chemical is known to cause upset stomachs and nervousness. The leaves and stem can be used in cooking for flavor, but must be removed before eating. Like Potatoes, to which plant family.the Tomato belongs, this fruit is by no means completely benign.
Add caption
This is that with which Adam famously tempted Eve, and which has been a favourite of mankind since time began, but Apples are poisonous in certain aspects. The flesh of the fruit is perfectly safe to eat, and indeed bobbing for apples floating on water, which they do because the fruits are 25% air themselves, is a lot of fun. However the fruits do contain cyanide, to be found contained within the seeds in the Apple core. All of the seeds from a single fruit are not enough to cause death but is still not advisable. Ingest enough apple seeds after chewing and swallowed them canmake you very poorly indeed and quite possibly kill you. Be warned.

Everyone has some experience of eating chillies, and it is unimportant wether it was an extremely hot variety, or one of the milder types, every single pod contained capsaicin, the chemical responsible for their being spicy and sometimes very hot. Small amounts eaten are no problem, but eat enough and capsaicin can kill you. This strong chemical is used in paint stripper, and in pepper spray used by police forces. Some chillie types contain so much that the chemical burns the skin if you get some of it on there when cutting the chili up. Chiliesare good for you in another way though, as each pod is said to contain about 6 times as much Vitamin C as an orange.

Everyone loves to get at the cherry tree when the fruits ripen properly, and Cherries are indeed very versatile fruits, which can eaten raw, cooked as tart or sweet dishes and even used in certain liqueurs. In spite of their attractiveness and taste, at least where the flesh is concerned, cherries are toxic. Never chew on the cherry pip orkeep it on your tongue, because by doing so you risk getting hydrogen cyanide into your body., an extremely poisonous chemical released when the pips are crushed or chewed. This poison leads to headaches, dizziness, confusion, anxiety, and vomiting in mild doses, but bigger amounts cause labored breathing, ioverly high blood pressure and heart rate, and kidney failure. This can result in coma, convulsions, and death from suffocation of the respiratory system.

It is the most staple part of many diets around the world, and millions of tons are consumed every year, but how aware are the unsuspecting public of the disturbing revelation that potatoes are poisdonous? Not only are both stem and leaves of the plant toxic, so is the potato itself, especially it starts to turn a greenish color. Glycoalkaloid is the poison substance within the potatoes, having in the past caused deaths. Though such events are rare, most happen because the victim chose to drink potato leaf tea, or eat too green potatoes, so people should discard any that have green eyes, sprouts, or greenish skins, especially when cooking for children. Death from Glycoalkaloid poisons are not quick or easy, usually involving progressive weakness before falling into a coma. The pototo has actually made it into space as food for astronauts, and in 1995 potato plants were taken into orbit on the Columbia and actually grown in the wieghtless environment.

Ambanis spark reunion talk

Ambanis spark reunion talk
Posted by MydeaMedia

Even as the sleepy town of Chorwad in the Saurashtra region came alive as the Ambani brothers arrived to take part in Dhirubhai Ambani's birth anniversary function, investors are seeing it as a positive sign.

However, neither the Mukesh Ambani camp nor the Anil Ambani camp gave any indication that the reunion had anything to do with business. But that they came together in Chorwad, their father's birthplace, after 15 years, was good enough to make news.
The 80th birth anniversary functions held on December 27-28, also saw the presence of their mother Kokilaben, sisters Dipti Salgaonkar, Neena Kothari and all their families.

The media was kept at bay and no interviews were given, as the brothers took part in religious rituals. A memorial housing a museum at Dhirubhai Ambani's ancestral house—Dhirubhai No Delo—was inaugurated by guru Ramesh Oza. The museum on the late Ambani's life will be thrown open to the public.

Family members took part in dandiya and when Kokilaben came a day ahead of the brothers, she said, “Hum saath saath hai” (We are together).

Said chairman of Ahmedabad Stock Exchange Limited, Hemant Jhala: “The event will make a definite difference to the businesses of the brothers and investors.” He did not rule out the possibility of the companies merging and said beginnings are made by such gatherings.

Opined former vice president of Vadodara Stock Exchange, Umesh Patel: “There is a clear-cut message to investors that there is no corporate war between the brothers. By separating, the brothers have seen the reality and learnt a lesson that they stand to gain if they are united.” Shares of their companies would stabilise now, he added.

An investor from Central Gujarat, Narendra Patel, 34, was happy when he heard about the reunion at Chorwad. Notwithstanding the Sensex going southwards, he is keen to buy shares of Mukesh and Anil Ambani's companies.

But there are many investors who feel not much should be read between the lines. “This is just a family reunion. It has nothing to do with business,” said an investor associated with a political party.

The massive Reliance empire was split into two by the warring brothers after Dhirubhai Ambani's demise. Only time will tell if the brothers, who landed in different choppers, will go their separate ways or reunite in business. But the event has certainly sent a signal of hope.

Close encounter with Cyclone Thane

Close encounter with Cyclone Thane

Posted by MydeaMedia

To those in interior south India, Cyclone Thane might be just another cold, wet day to grumble about. Or perhaps even enjoy as we huddle over a hot beverage. But on the east coast of India, cyclone Thane's fury was at its peak early this morning. At about 9 AM, the cyclone made landfall between Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry on India's eastern coastline. Winds, at speeds of 140 kph, tore avenue trees off the ground, hurled dustbins afar, snapped coconut palms like matchsticks, ripped windows out of their hinges, and tossed catamarans and fishing boats ashore. Gigantic, furious waves washed up great boulders onto the esplanade and raging winds smashed the doors of the French Consulate with debris. Power and cellular networks have been disrupted and fears of a water shortage are rising. Sahastrarashmi, who is running on erratic broadband on his last minutes of electricity, sends these unsettling pictures from Puducherry.

At 9 AM on Friday, December 30, Cyclone Thane made landfall between Cuddalore and Puducherry on India's south-eastern sea coast. Winds with speeds of 140 kilometers per hour caused immense destruction though no loss of life has yet been reported. Sahastrarashmi, a resident of Puducherry who works with an IT company in Chennai and writes for the nature blog The Green Ogre, stepped out into the streets early this morning and reported that just walking against the powerful winds required a huge effort. Just hours later, the streets were strewn with debris, trees had fallen, and boats had washed up several hundred meters into the town's main streets. These pictures were taken with great presence of mind and shared exclusively with Yahoo! India over a dodgy broadband connection even as power supply from his UPS was rapidly trickling.
If you are anywhere between Puducherry and Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, please travel cautiously.

Is The World Really Ending In 2012 ! ?...

Is The World Really Ending In 2012!?

Posted by MydeaMedia

If you have never heard of the doomsday prophecy along with the date 21st December 2012 then where have you been?! With the interweb rife with chatter and conspiracy theorists hyperventilating over this coming date it has been pretty hard to have not. Like all good conspiracies there is in-depth information and surprisingly eyebrow lifting facts which make the hardest of cynics think twice before the scoffing begins. Whether you are a believer or not, it sure makes for an interesting read. Let us look at the top theories which have people worried; what are the reasons behind the hysteria?

Sumerians
The Sumerians where a super advanced civilization which was settled in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) around 5000 – 4000 BC, it is debated that they were actually the earliest civilization discovered. They were advanced in architecture; building the most incredible layered plat formed pyramids and temples and the very first civilization to be accustomed with metrology system which resulted in the creation of arithmetic, geometry and algebra.
But more surprisingly is that they were so advanced in the astrology of our galaxy from the colours of our planets to their moons, that these facts recorded from all that time ago have only been proven in the past century. In 1851 a collection of Sumerian books and 22,000 scrolls were discovered in Iraq. They tell the story of a flood changing Earth as we know it, wiping mankind from the planet, a story which is reiterated in Genesis. They also point to a planet which we refer to in modern day terms as Planet X.
Planet X is said to be enormous in size – 4 times bigger than Jupiter in fact, dwarfing the Earth. The Sumerian’s had another name for it – Nibiru.

Above is a seal which depicts our solar system with the sun centred and with the planets placed orbiting around it. You can see there is a 12th planet which they named Nibiru and is assumed to be a dwarf planet.

Nibiru translates to – ‘planet of the crossing’ and legend or fact has it, Nibiru travels around a long elliptical orbit only coming towards earth every 3600 years coinciding with the end of the Mayan calendar, which ends? You guessed it December 21st 2012 and that is where the date comes from. Some think that the Sumerians and Mayans were not predicting the end of the earth but a consciousness in human enlightenment and a new beginning for the human race.

Planetary Alignment
On the same date the Mayan calendar ends (21st December 2012) the sun goes straight through galactic equator, an alignment which only ever happens once every 26,000 years. It is stated that this alignment of the sun and the planets which enters the dark rift of the Milky Way will be the first time it will be witnessed and recorded in history to date, therefore we have no knowledge of what destruction or affect if any it will have on Earth.
Add caption

Some think this coinciding with the calendar is worrying. Did they really know something we do not? Gossip is widespread with concerns of polar shifts and all kinds of end of day’s biblical destruction. We all know that the planets and the sun does affect conditions here on earth, but some say this will have no precedence on us at all, others state that we will see an increase in solar activity and large scale disruption. It seems even the scientists cannot agree on this forth coming anomaly.

Solar Storm NASA Warning
In 2010 and again earlier this year NASA issued a warning on an up-coming solar maximum for late in 2012, scientists say that the sun will be entering and passing through an interstellar energy cloud which excites/energizes the sun. What affects could this have on planet Earth? Well, it is stated that it could in fact dismantle and frazzle our satellites knocking out our power grids, ending our communications for month’s maybe years. Something we are not prepared for, worse case – prompting worldwide blackouts, ending the usage of technology we rely on daily, from cell phones to navigational systems. NASA also states that it will cause more natural disasters such as much larger earthquakes, volcanic eruptions along with extreme weather.
Main tunnel of seed vault.
Worryingly enough our governments seem to be preparing for some kind of major event behind the scenes , vast seed banks have been structured underground in Russia and Norway . FEMA camps have been stockpiling disposable coffins in their 100,000’s and construction of underground bases for the “elite” seem to be being built underneath our very own noses. Under Denver Airport being one of them.

So there you have it! I have touched on just some of the rumours and theories circling the web. Should we be worried or do we thrive on these conspiracies, excited by the unknown, doomsday scenarios and biblical prophecies! Personally, I will not be worrying just yet and hey, if it does happen nothing much we can do about it, it’s not like we would be informed by our governments anyway.
Maybe I will stock up on water and some tinned food just in case...

Weird: Caffeine Overdose Kills a British Man !!!

Weird:Caffeine Overdose Kills a British Man !

Posted by MydeaMedia

A 23-year-old British man died from a caffeine overdose after consuming caffeine powder and energy drinks at a party in Mansfield, England.

Michael Lee Bedford from Mansfield, central England, swallowed the caffeine powder that a friend bought online for £3.29. He likely used it to delay hangover caused by excessive alcohol consumption. An inquest on the incident was held Friday.

He washed the powder down with an energy drink, and about 15 minutes later began sweating and puking up blood. Friends saw him downing spoonfuls of caffeine powder and the inquest ruled that he had taken what would have been the equivalent of 70 cans of energy drink. Bedford had a “poisonous” 251mg of caffeine per litre of blood in his system.

Nottingham Post reported he died at King’s Mill Hospital in Nottinghamshire, central England. Dr. Nigel Chapman, Nottingham Coroner said “Caffeine is so freely available on the internet for £3.29, but it’s so lethal if taken in the wrong dose, and here we see the consequence. So many people are upset and distraught by the death of Michael.” The packet of caffeine powder instructed users to take no more than one sixteenth of a teaspoon.

Top 5 music phones under Rs 5,000

There are many phones in the market that claim to be music phones. However, not all deliver on the promise or are too expensive for the features they offer. Here, we have chosen five phones that offer a good balance of price and music apart from offering ease of use and good battery life.

Spice M-6464

This is the first time we have considered Spice M-6464 for this segment, and the reason is that it offers brilliant music options that are hard to ignore.

The first and most important feature that separates this phone from the crowd is its FM transmitter that allows you to create your own FM station. Create your MP3 list, plug in your earphones and tune in to the frequency at which you want to broadcast. You can listen to the music in a car or on another phone as well.

Besides, Spice M-6464 has a one touch FM and MP3 player, Yamaha amplifiers and dual speakers. You also get a 2 megapixel camera which can also be use as a webcam. There is also a Hinglish (English-Hindi) input that allows you to text without pressing buttons.

M-6464 has an 8 GB expandable memory, and all these features come at an incredible price of Rs 3,350.

Micromax M2

This has been part of all our lists of music phones, even, at times, when we're considering more expensive options. And the reason is clear as you get a true personal music player with a phone.

Micromax M2 is a music centric dual SIM mobile phone. It has a 2 inch display that is capable of reproducing vibrant images and has a high resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, which is great for viewing videos. There is also a 2 megapixel camera that does a pretty good job.

The phone's sound output is SRS certified and the box carries a certificate to prove this. The M2 offers great music quality with clear audio and volume. The sound output is balanced with clean bass (low frequency), mids (medium frequency) and his (high frequency) sounds. This device supports popular audio file formats like MP3 and WMA.

M2 comes with a big headset along with a stereo handsfree kit. The headphone is good in terms of quality and reproduces sounds well.

The phone uses Bluetooth and GPRS for wireless connectivity. A big drawback of the device is that there is no provision for expanding memory, though the phone comes with 2 GB inbuilt, which might not be sufficient if you like to carry your entire music collection with you. The device is priced at Rs 3,000. You can check our detailed review of this phone here.

Nokia X1-01

Nokia X1-01 is a wonderful phone for connectivity and music at a very low price point of just Rs 1,849.
Samsung Champ 2

Samsung Champ has always been a good music phone, and with Champ 2 it gets better. The new phone has a sleek metallic finish with a 2.4 inch  full touchscreen display. Its compact size and glossy back cover make it look stylish.

The phone is a music centric one with stereo FM and MP3 player, but it also has a lot of other features such as the home screen page being extendable across seven pages. The homepage comes with 13 different important widgets for easy access to multiple apps. Apart from the 2 megapixel camera, it also has the latest Bluetooth 3.0, which enables fast wireless transfer of files.

Champ now includes a USB 2.0 port for data transfer between devices and PCs, and has upgraded social networking features like ChatOn, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo Messenger and Gtalk.

Push email is available through ActiveSync syncs with Gmail and Hotmail contacts and calendar info, and with that it supports pull mail from over 8,000 email servers through ID and password input only.

The price is also attractive at Rs 4,000, though it also makes this device the most expensive in the list, but then it has features to back that price.
